Abstract: Biometric definition is best explained by understanding its nomenclature.
The word "biometrics" is derived from the Greek words 'bios' and 'metric'; which means life and measurement respectively. This directly translates into "life measurement". General science has included biometrics as a field of statistical development since the early twentieth century. A very good example is the statistical analysis of data from agricultural field experiments comparing the yields of different varieties of wheat. In this way, science is taking a life measurement of the agriculture to ultimately determine more efficient methods of growth. Biometrics technologies measure a particular set of a person's vital statistics in order to determine identity.

Abstract:In the present day world, online shopping using WAP enabled mobile phone has widely come into use. Credit cards serve as the currency during e-business and e-Shopping.
As technology has advanced in the negative side also hackers and spoofers steal misuse credit card numbers, even though the network has been made secure.So, in this paper, we have proposed a multi-biometric model (integrating voice, fingerprint and facial scanning) that can be embedded in a mobile phone, this making e-transactions more secure. The model is very cost effective as we have tried to use the hardware already present in the phone.This paper uses for image processing or facial recognization and finger print. We have also simulated a few graphs for voice recognition and facial verification using MATLAB 6.0.

This paper proposes a study of personal verification and identification using hand geometry. Hand geometry used consists of the lengths and widths of fingers and the width of a palm. Users can place their hands freely without the need for pegs to fix the hand placement. In this method, systems using six different distance functions were tested and compared. Test data are from 96 users. Among the six different distance functions, S1 gives the best results in both verification and identification.

Abstract: In this paper, a new methodology has been proposed by which the keystroke analysis can be combined with the existing authentication mechanisms through keyboard to improve the security of delicate applications to a very high extent. It can be useful to ascertain the intruders and reject them from the system, provided that we are able to deal with the typing rhythms of the intruders. Unlike other techniques, keystroke sampling does not require any specific hardware. Our approach can rely on what is typed by people because of their normal job, preferably username and password, and show attractive accuracies. As a consequence, we argue that our method can be used as a complementary or alternative way for user authentication and as an aid to intrusion detection to improve computer security.

Abstract: It has always been an arduous task for the election commission to conduct  free and fair polls in our country, the largest democracy in the world. Crores of rupees have been spent on this to make sure that the elections are riot free. But, now- a -days it has become common for some forces to indulge in rigging which may eventually lead to a result contrary to the actual verdict given by the people.
This paper aims to present a new voting system employing biometrics in order to avoid rigging and to enhance the accuracy and speed of the process. The system uses thumb impression for voter identification as we know that the thumb impression of every human being has a unique pattern. Thus it would have an edge over the present day voting systems.

Abstract: A chip architecture that integrates a fingerprint sensor and an identifier in a single chip is proposed. The Fingerprint identifier is formed by an array of pixels, and each pixel contains a sensing element and a Processing element. The sensing element senses capacitances formed by a finger surface to capture a Fingerprint image. Identification is performed by the pixel-parallel processing of the pixels. The sensing element is built above the processing element in each pixel. The chip architecture realizes a wide-area sensor without a large increase of chip size and ensures high sensor sensitivity while maintaining a high image density. The sensing element is covered with a hard film to prevent physical and chemical degradation and surrounded by a ground wall to shield it. The wall is also exposed on the chip surface to protect against damage by electrostatic discharges from the finger contacting the chip. A 15* 15 mm2 single-chip fingerprint Sensor/identifier LSI uses 0.5um standard CMOS with the sensor process. The sensor area is 10.1 * 13.5 mm2: The sensing and identification time is 102 ms with power consumption of 8.8 mW at 3.3 V. Five hundred tests confirmed a stranger-rejection rate of the chip of more than 99% and a user-rejection rate of less than 1%.
