Abstract: Recent advances in miniature devices, as well as mobile and ubiquitous computing, have fostered a dramatic growth of interest for wearable technology. Wearable biosensors systems are an emerging trend and are expected to be revolutionary in many application areas, ranging from cardiovascular monitoring to battle field monitoring and sports medicine. These systems, comprising various types of small physiological sensors, transmission modules and processing capabilities, promise to change the future of health care, by providing low-cost wearable unobtrusive solutions for continuous all-day and any-place health, mental and activity status monitoring. This is due to the large number of companies that have recently started investing aggressively in the development of wearable products for various applications. However, reliability of these wearable sensors is by far inferior to their traditional counterparts, leading to frequent false alarms. Since most of the potential applications are for field use, the wearable sensors must be robust against disturbances, in particular, the motion of the wearer. New technology is needed for eliminating motion artifact and recovering signals corrupted with the body motion. This is a rapidly growing product sector. Large numbers of up-and coming tech companies are investing heavily in this area, along with networks, device makers and venture capitalists. As a result, in 10 years' time, things will look a lot different than they do today. This paper presents a comprehensive study of various applications of wearable bio sensors in the field of health care, activity recognition, sports science, patient monitoring, road accidents prevention, and many more applicable in our daily life. An Architectural Approach to Preventing Code Injection Attacks full seminar ppt paper ieee Abstract: Code injection attacks, despite being well researched, continue to be a problem today. Modern architectural solutions such as the execute-disable bit and PaX have been useful in limiting the attacks; however, they enforce program layout restrictions and can oftentimes still be circumvented by a determined attacker. We propose a change to the memory architecture of modern processors that addresses the code injection problem at its very root by virtually splitting memory into code memory and data memory such that a processor will never be able to fetch injected code for execution. This virtual split memory system can be implemented as a software-only patch to an operating system and can be used to supplement existing schemes for improved protection. Furthermore, our system is able to accommodate a number of response modes when a code injection attack occurs. Our experiments with both benchmarks and real-world attacks show the system is effective in preventing a wide range of code injection attacks while incurring reasonable overhead.

Abstract: We present a simple and implementable algorithm that computes a minimum spanning tree of an undirected weighted graph vertices and edges on an EREW PRAM using n m processors. This represents a substantial improvement in the running time over the previous results for this problem using at the same time the weakest of the PRAM models. It also implies the existence of algorithms having the same complexity bounds for the EREW PRAM for connectivity ear decomposition

Fog Computing Mitigating Insider Data Theft Attacks in the Cloud

Abstract:Cloud computing promises to significantly change the way we use computers and access and store our personal and business information. With these new computing and communications paradigms arise new data security challenges. Existing data protection mechanisms such as encryption have failed in preventing data theft attacks, especially those perpetrated by an insider to the cloud provider.

We propose a different approach for securing data in the cloud using offensive decoy technology. We monitor data access in the cloud and detect abnormal data access patterns. When unauthorized access is suspected and then verified using challenge questions, we launch a disinformation attack by returning large amounts of decoy information to the attacker. This protects against the misuse of the user’s real data. Experiments conducted in a local file setting provide evidence that this approach may provide unprecedented levels of user data security in a Cloud environment.

Abstract:The name Surface comes from "surface computing," and Microsoft envisions the coffee-table machine as the first of many such devices. Surface computing uses a blend of wireless protocols, special machine-readable tags and shape recognition to seamlessly merge the real and the  virtual world — an idea the Milan team refers to as "blended reality." The table can be built with a variety of wireless transceivers, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and (eventually) radio frequency identification (RFID) and is designed to sync instantly with any device that touches its surface. It supports multiple touch points – Microsoft says "dozens and dozens" -- as well as multiple users simultaneously, so more than one person could be using it at once, or one person could be doing multiple tasks. The term "surface" describes how it's used. There is no keyboard or mouse. All interactions with the computer are done via touching the surface of the computer's screen with hands or brushes, or via wireless interaction with devices such as smartphones, digital cameras or Microsoft's Zune music player.

Abstract: A wearable computer is a computer that is subsumed into the personal space of the user, controlled by the user, and is always on and always accessible. Therefore, among the most salient aspect of wearable computers should be small form factor and long battery lifetime. In this paper, we have designed and implemented a low-power real-time operating system (called “eRTOS”) specialized for wearable computers. eRTOS has about 9KB footprint and is equipped with low-power techniques composed of the dynamic power management and the device power management. Experimental results with wearable applications show that we can save energy up to 47% using the proposed low-power techniques.

Due to lack of central control within Grid computing, the resource management is a difficult task. One of the most important tasks of the resource management is to achieve high system throughput. It can be done by finding the best match between the application needs and the available computing resources. Guaranteeing QoS in a non-deterministically shared heterogeneous environment is the main challenge of the matching task. In this paper we introduce a novel solution to guarantee the quality of service in Grid computing environment by using Active Database. It accommodates some actions to be down automatically by insert, delete or update transactions. As a result the best matching is obtained by using the most up to date information. After comparing our solution with others, we ascertained that our solution is safe factory and acceptable in the limits of performance.

With the exciting new discoveries that have captured the attention of the whole world in the last year, no longer can we afford to let optical computing remain a term in the dictionary. If we are to remain competent, the future lies that way.

Abstract:We advocate a novel approach to grid computing that is based on a combination of classic” operating system level virtual machines (VMs) and middleware mechanisms to manage VMs in a distributed environment. The abstraction is that of dynamically instantiated and mobile VMs that are a combination of traditional OS processes (the VM monitors) and files (the VM state). We give qualitative arguments that justify our approach in terms of security, isolation, customization, legacy support and resource control, and we show quantitative results that demonstrate the feasibility of our approach from a performance perspective. Finally, we describe the middleware challenges implied by the approach and architecture for grid computing using virtual machines.

Abstract:The utility of a mobile computer, such as a laptop, is largely constrained by battery life. The display stands out as a major consumer of battery energy, so reducing that consumption is desirable. In this paper, we motivate and study energy-adaptive display sub-systems that match display energy consumption to the functionality required by the workload/user. Through a detailed characterization of display usage patterns, we show that screen usage of a typical user is primarily associated with content that could be displayed in smaller and simpler Displays with significantly lower energy use. We propose example energy-adaptive designs that use emerging
OLED displays and software optimizations that we call Dark windows. Modeling the power benefits from this approach shows significant, though user-specific, energy benefits. Prototype implementations also show acceptability of the new user interfaces among users.
